Sow seed in fall in moist to average, humus-rich, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil in partial shade — yellow giant hyssop is the woodland-adapted member of the native Agastache genus and the only common native hyssop that thrives in partial shade rather than full sun. It produces the genus's characteristic long, dense, vertical flower spikes covered with tiny two-lipped flowers, but in pale yellow-green to cream rather than the orange or lavender of its more familiar relatives. At 4–6 feet tall, it is one of the most imposing native shade perennials available, providing a strong vertical accent in the woodland garden. Strongly anise-scented throughout. The small flowers provide important nectar for native bees, small butterflies, and particularly for Hemaris moth species (hummingbird moths). Self-sows moderately in appropriate conditions. A striking and underused native for large-scale woodland and shaded native gardens in zones 3–8.

Direct sow seed in fall in moist to average, slightly acidic to neutral, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade; yellow giant hyssop is uniquely tolerant of partial shade among the native Agastache species, thriving in the open woodland understory where its relatives cannot grow.
