Опис
Plant in well-drained, lean, alkaline to neutral, rocky or sandy soil in full sun to partial shade; Texas betony is a native wildflower of the limestone hills of Texas and the arid Southwest, producing tubular, brilliant scarlet flowers in whorls along the square stems of a spreading mint-family plant from late winter through frost — one of the longest-blooming native perennials in the Southern garden. The vivid red flowers are irresistible to hummingbirds and provide one of the best native hummingbird plants for xeric, alkaline-soil gardens. It is extremely drought and heat tolerant, thriving in the conditions that defeat most flowering perennials in the hot, dry Southwest. The felted, gray-green leaves provide attractive texture even between bloom cycles. Self-sows freely in appropriate, well-drained conditions to naturalize. Outstanding in native plant gardens, xeric landscapes, and rock gardens in zone 7–11.

Direct sow seed or plant divisions in fall in well-drained, alkaline to neutral, lean, rocky or sandy soil in full sun to partial shade; Texas betony is native to dry limestone slopes and rocky arroyos and requires excellent drainage — it declines quickly in heavy, wet clay soils. The plant self-sows to naturalize in appropriate, well-drained conditions.
