Опис

Plant rhizomes in spring in moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil in partial shade; pinecone ginger (shampoo ginger, wild ginger) is a spectacular tropical ginger grown for its unusual inflorescences — tight, compact, cone-shaped flower heads that look exactly like green pinecones on thick stems, which mature from green to brilliant red as the season progresses. The small, yellow flowers emerge briefly from between the bracts. The ripe, red cones produce a fragrant, slightly slimy liquid when squeezed that has been used as a hair conditioner and shampoo in Pacific Island and Asian cultures for centuries — the liquid has a pleasant, gingery fragrance and actually conditions hair effectively. The rhizomes are edible with a slightly bitter, medicinal ginger flavor and are used in Southeast Asian cooking. In zone 9 the tall, bamboo-like stems die back completely in winter and regrow from rhizomes in spring, providing both edible, fragrant, and ornamental value throughout the warm season. Спосіб посадки: Розмноження діленням куща Відстань між рослинами: 18–30 дюймів Висота: 36–72 дюймів
