Little Ragu is a compact, upright form of culinary sweet bay with aromatic evergreen leaves used fresh or dried in soups and stews. It stays tidy at 6 to 8 feet and takes well to pruning or shaping in containers. Plant in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil and let the surface dry slightly between waterings, as it dislikes soggy roots. In cold-winter areas grow it in a pot and bring it into a cool, bright spot before hard frost. Harvest mature leaves any time and dry them for the strongest flavor.
