Seeds germinate best after a cold period, so sow outdoors in fall or cold-stratify before spring sowing. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil, where the plants are drought tolerant once established and popular with butterflies. The long-lasting spikes make excellent fresh or dried cut flowers.
