'Alan's Pride' is a first-year-flowering coneflower with unusual zesty lime-green blooms on graceful 2-foot stems. Start seed indoors and give it a period of cold-moist stratification to break dormancy and improve germination. Grow in full sun in average, well-drained soil where it becomes drought tolerant once established. The blooms draw bees and butterflies, and leaving seed heads standing feeds finches into fall and winter. Divide clumps every few years to keep them vigorous.
