Опис
Honewort is a shade-loving native edible herb, native to moist, rich woodlands and forest edges throughout eastern North America from Quebec to Florida and west to Kansas, producing tender, edible leaves and stems in spring and early summer that taste mildly of parsley and celery — used raw in salads or cooked as a pot herb. It is closely related to Japanese mitsuba (Cryptotaenia japonica) and can substitute for it in East Asian cooking; the young leaves are particularly flavorful in early spring. A self-seeding perennial that naturalizes freely in the shade garden, it fills in the difficult deep-shade spaces where most vegetables fail, providing a continuous harvest of tender greens from early spring to summer heat. Harvest outer leaves regularly to maintain plant vigor; allow some plants to set seed for natural self-renewal.
