Опис
Plant in very well-drained, lean, alkaline to neutral soil in full sun; desert honeysuckle (hummingbird bush) is a native Southwestern shrub with an extraordinarily long season of tubular, orange-red flowers that are among the most powerfully attractive hummingbird plants in the xeric and arid Southwest. Blooming from summer through fall with each successive flowering flush triggered by summer monsoon rains, the plant produces dense masses of 1.5-inch, orange-red tubular flowers that provide rich nectar for migrating and resident hummingbirds. It is extremely drought tolerant and actually declines in fertility and blooming if given rich soil or excess water — thriving in the hard, dry, alkaline conditions of the Southwest and Edwards Plateau. Cut back hard each late winter before new growth begins. The species A. wrightii (flame anisacanthus, Wright's desert honeysuckle) has similar requirements and is equally outstanding as a hummingbird plant; both are outstanding native choices for xeric wildflower and butterfly gardens.

Час посадки: 2–6 тижнів spring
Plant container-grown plants or rooted cuttings in spring in any very well-drained, alkaline to neutral, lean soil in full sun; desert honeysuckle requires excellent drainage and lean soil — rich, moist soil causes rank growth and reduced flowering. Cut back hard to 12 inches in late winter to encourage compact, dense growth and maximum summer bloom.
