Woolly Pod Vetch

Inoculate seed and drill or broadcast at about 1-2 lb per 1,000 sq ft, covering to 1 inch deep in a firm seedbed. Woolly pod vetch is an early-maturing relative of hairy vetch that fixes nitrogen and produces dense sprawling growth. Its earlier flowering makes it easier to terminate ahead of spring planting than standard hairy vetch. Mow or roller-crimp at early bloom for effective no-till kill, then plant into the residue mat. Because it can reseed, terminate before pods harden to limit volunteers in future crops.
