Plant wood anemone rhizomes in fall just below the surface in cool, humus-rich woodland soil in partial to full shade. The starry white spring flowers carpet the ground before deciduous trees leaf out, then the plant goes dormant by summer. It spreads slowly by creeping rhizomes to form a lovely ephemeral groundcover. Keep the soil moist during growth and mark the location, as the foliage disappears entirely in summer.
