Опис
Plant in moist, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil in partial shade — vernal witch hazel is the earliest-blooming native Hamamelis species, opening its strap-petaled flowers in January through March while the plant is still dormant, even in the coldest conditions of zone 4–5. The flowers come in shades from pale yellow to orange to deep brick-red (dark orange-red in the commonly grown form) and have a sweet, spicy fragrance. Unlike the common witch hazel (H. virginiana), which blooms in fall, H. vernalis blooms in late winter and is the best native species for early-season pollinator value — providing nectar for early queen bumblebees and native mining bees on warm winter days. It is native to the gravel bars and rocky streambanks of the Ozarks and tolerates moist to wet conditions. The fall foliage is brilliant orange-yellow.

Час посадки: -8–-4 тижнів осіння посадка
Plant container-grown shrubs in fall or spring in moist to moderately moist, slightly acidic, humus-rich, well-drained to moist soil in partial shade to full sun; vernal witch hazel tolerates moist soil and periodic flooding along streams better than most other witch hazels.
