Опис
Venus flytrap is the world's most famous carnivorous plant — a native of the Green Swamp region of North and South Carolina, where it grows in wet, nutrient-poor, acidic pine savannas maintained by periodic fire, trapping and digesting insects and spiders with its hinged, toothed, snap-trap leaves to supplement the minimal nutrients available in its impoverished native habitat. Each trap closes in milliseconds when two trigger hairs inside the trap are touched in quick succession — a failsafe mechanism that prevents wasted closure on raindrops or wind-blown debris; the trap then seals tightly and secretes digestive enzymes over 7–10 days to dissolve the prey. Despite its exotic appearance, Venus flytrap is hardy to zone 7 and requires a cold winter dormancy of 3–4 months (50°F) to remain healthy long-term; in zones 7–9 it can be grown outdoors year-round in appropriate bog conditions. Grow in a mix of 50% peat moss and 50% perlite or sand (no potting soil, no fertilizer), keep the medium wet using rain water or distilled water only, and provide maximum sun — the most common causes of failure are tap water, fertilizer, and insufficient sun.

Час посадки: 0–4 тижнів spring
Sow seeds on the surface of moist, nutrient-poor, acidic medium (50/50 peat moss and perlite or long-fiber sphagnum moss) in full sun; water only with rain water or distilled water — tap water minerals and all fertilizers will kill plants. Venus flytrap requires a winter dormancy period (50°F for 3–4 months).
