Tweedia, or blue milkweed, offers rare true-blue, aquamarine star-shaped flowers with lavender buds and older blooms adding extra flair. Start the slow-germinating seed indoors 8 to 6 weeks before the last frost in warm soil, and transplant out after frost danger passes. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil where the sweetly scented flowers draw pollinators. Unlike common milkweeds it stays compact, making it well suited to containers and cut-flower use.
