Опис
Spotted Trillium is a sessile trillium of the southeastern coastal plain, native to moist, rich hardwood forests from South Carolina south to Florida and west to Alabama, where it often grows with sweetbay magnolia, titi, and evergreen shrubs in lowland forest understories. Its heavily marbled, silver-spotted leaves and nearly black maroon sessile flowers make it one of the more dramatic members of the genus, and the flowers carry a faint spicy scent that attracts fly pollinators. Rhizome divisions establish best when planted in fall in deeply amended, consistently moist, acidic soil (pH 5.0–6.0) in full shade; the plants go completely dormant by early summer and should never be disturbed while dormant. Source only from reputable nurseries growing their own stock — this species is never legitimately available from wild collection.
