Опис

Texas ebony is one of the finest ornamental trees native to south Texas and northeastern Mexico, producing a dense, rounded crown of small, dark green compound leaves on thorny branches — the tree's extremely hard, black-brown heartwood (comparable in density to commercial ebony) is prized for wood turning and tool handles, and the species' name reflects this extraordinary wood quality. Clusters of fragrant, creamy-white to pale yellow flowers appear in summer and fall and are heavily visited by native bees and honeybees, producing a distinctive honey; the large, woody seed pods split open in fall to reveal shiny black seeds that are edible when roasted and were an important food source for indigenous peoples of the Rio Grande Valley. In south Texas (zone 9–10) it is among the most recommended native trees for year-round evergreen screening, wildlife habitat, and creating dense shade in landscapes — slow-growing but extremely drought-tolerant and long-lived once established. It also provides one of the most important nesting trees for the endangered ferruginous pygmy owl in the lower Rio Grande Valley. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 120–240 дюймів Висота: 120–360 дюймів Дні до схожості: 14–30 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 21–27°C
