Опис

Swamp Tupelo is a dominant native tree of the permanent swamps, bay forests, and river floodplains of the southeastern coastal plain from Delaware to Florida and west to Texas, often growing alongside bald cypress and water tupelo in pure stands in the deepest, most permanently flooded low-lying land in the South. It is distinguished from the more upland Black Gum (Nyssa sylvatica) by its narrower leaves, preference for wetter conditions, and more southern distribution; in very wet sites it develops the distinctive swollen, buttressed trunk base characteristic of swamp-adapted trees. In fall Swamp Tupelo produces one of the finest foliage displays of any native tree — brilliant crimson, scarlet, and orange — providing spectacular autumn color even in the deep South where fall foliage is often muted. Small blue-black drupes in fall are consumed by a wide variety of birds and mammals. Plant in consistently wet to seasonally flooded, acidic soil in full sun to partial shade; it tolerates standing water better than almost any other native upland tree. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 240–480 дюймів Висота: 360–960 дюймів Дні до схожості: 60–90 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 4–13°C

Swamp Tupelo is adapted to seasonally or permanently flooded conditions and develops distinctive swollen (buttressed) trunk bases in very wet soils; it is most appropriate for rain gardens, wet bottomlands, and natural pond margins.
