Опис
Sycamore-leaf Snowbell is a beautiful native understory shrub or small tree, endemic to the limestone canyons, creek banks, and rocky woodland slopes of the Texas Edwards Plateau and Hill Country, where it grows in the shaded understory of live oak and Texas cedar elm woodlands in thin, alkaline, limestone-derived soils. In April and May it produces clusters of fragrant, white, pendant bell-shaped flowers similar to those of other snowbells (Styrax species), with the blooms arranged more openly than the closely related American Snowbell (Styrax americanus). The large, maple-like (plataniform) leaves are a distinctive characteristic that sets it apart from other native snowbells. An excellent shrub for Texas Hill Country native landscapes and limestone-soil gardens in zones 7–9, it is drought-tolerant once established in well-drained alkaline soil and requires no fertilizer or supplemental irrigation after the first two seasons. Source from specialty native Texas plant nurseries.
