Опис
Plant divisions in moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil in partial to full shade — southern wild ginger is an elegant native groundcover of the southeastern US Piedmont and coastal plain, producing attractive, arrowhead-shaped evergreen leaves that are beautifully mottled with silver-gray markings along the veins. Unlike its deciduous northern relative (Asarum canadense), this species holds its foliage through winter in zones 7–9, maintaining year-round groundcover. The curious jug-shaped, brown-purple flowers emerge at soil level in early spring and are pollinated by ground beetles — they are almost entirely hidden by the foliage and go unnoticed, but the effect in leaf is outstanding. The foliage has a mild gingery fragrance when crushed. It spreads slowly by rhizome to form dense mats that suppress weeds under trees and in shaded beds, making it an excellent choice for dry to moderately moist shade in southern gardens.
Спосіб посадки: Розмноження діленням куща
Відстань між рослинами: 8–12 дюймів
Висота: 4–8 дюймів
Дні до схожості: 30–60
Температура ґрунту для схожості: 10–18°C

Plant divisions in fall or early spring in moist to moderately dry, humus-rich, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained soil in partial to full shade; southern wild ginger is slow to spread but forms attractive evergreen colonies and is more heat and drought tolerant than the northern wild ginger (A. canadense), making it the better choice for zones 7–9.
