Опис
Smooth penstemon is the most widely distributed native penstemon in the southeastern United States, found in open woodland edges, roadside banks, and moist to dry uplands from Virginia to Florida and west to Texas — it is one of the more adaptable penstemons for Gulf Coast gardens, tolerating the heat and humidity of the Deep South better than many western species that struggle in the muggy Southeast. The whorled, tubular lavender-to-white flowers appear in April through June and are eagerly worked by large native bumblebees, hummingbirds, and long-tongued native bees; the plant's smooth, glossy leaves (the 'laevigatus' means smooth) and upright flower spikes provide attractive structure in native garden borders. It adapts to both moist woodland edges with partial shade and dry, sunny upland slopes — a versatility unusual among penstemons that makes it a reliable choice for varied garden conditions in the Southeast. Self-seeds modestly and forms small colonies over time; divide crowded clumps in fall every 3–4 years.

Час посадки: -6–-2 тижнів осіння посадка
Direct sow in fall in well-drained, slightly acidic, sandy to loamy soil in full sun to partial shade; smooth penstemon adapts to moist woodland edges as well as dry upland sites in the Southeast, making it more versatile than most penstemons for Gulf Coast garden conditions.
