Опис
Sow cold-stratified seed in fall in well-drained, slightly alkaline to neutral, rocky to gravelly soil in full sun to partial shade — smooth coneflower is a Federally Threatened native coneflower of the Appalachian piedmont and Blue Ridge foothills, declining primarily due to habitat loss and canopy closure over its characteristic thin-soil, semi-open woodland and roadside habitats. It is distinguished from the more common purple coneflower (E. purpurea) by its smooth (not rough) stems and leaves and its adaptation to disturbed, thin, rocky soils — often in partially shaded situations unlike most other Echinacea. The pale to deep rose-purple ray flowers and prominent central cone are characteristic of the genus and equally attractive to pollinators and beneficial for gardens. Growing this species supports its conservation by maintaining cultivated populations and seed banks. Purchase only nursery-propagated plants from reputable native plant nurseries.

Direct sow cold-stratified seed in fall in well-drained, slightly alkaline to neutral, rocky to gravelly, thin soil in full sun to partial shade; smooth coneflower is a Federally Threatened species adapted to disturbed, thin-soil openings in cedar-hardwood woodland — it requires good drainage and open mineral soil.
