Опис
Slender Blazingstar is a native perennial of the sandy coastal plain, pine flatwoods, and xeric scrub of the Florida peninsula and adjacent southeastern states, producing feathery, slender spikes of pink-purple flower heads on wiry stems in fall that are a critical nectar source for migrating monarch butterflies and native bees traversing the Florida peninsula during their southward fall migration. The narrow, thread-like leaves that cover the slender stems give the plant its common name; the flowers open from top to bottom on the spike, like all Liatris, and are notably fragrant compared to many other blazingstars. Adapted to the poor, sandy, xeric soils of the coastal plain where it often grows in open pine-palmetto flatwoods alongside other fire-adapted wildflowers, Slender Blazingstar requires excellent drainage and periodic burning or mechanical disturbance to maintain its competitive advantage. Direct sow seeds in fall in sandy, infertile, extremely well-drained, acidic soil in full sun; established corms are long-lived and drought-tolerant once settled in appropriate conditions.

Direct sow fresh seeds in fall in sandy, well-drained, infertile, acidic soil in full sun. Slender Blazingstar is adapted to the xeric, sandy coastal plain habitats of the Florida peninsula and adjacent states and will not thrive in clay, irrigated, or overly fertile garden conditions.
