Опис

Silky Camellia is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful native shrubs in North America, native to moist, acidic forest understories from Virginia and Tennessee south to Florida and west to Arkansas and Texas, where it blooms in May through July with large, pure white, five-petaled flowers featuring a central boss of deep bluish-purple filaments with yellow anthers — a combination found nowhere else in the native flora and reminiscent of a Japanese camellia. The flowers open sequentially over several weeks and are followed by attractive woody capsules; the fall foliage turns shades of orange and scarlet. Despite its beauty, Silky Camellia is notoriously slow-growing and slow to establish, taking many years to reach blooming size and resenting transplanting once established — but gardeners who invest the time and proper siting conditions are rewarded with a genuinely spectacular flowering shrub. Provide moist, deeply amended, acidic soil in partial shade with protection from hot afternoon sun; mulch heavily and water regularly during the first several years. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 96–144 дюймів Висота: 120–180 дюймів Дні до схожості: 90–180 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 4–13°C
