Опис

Showy Skullcap is an outstanding native woodland wildflower of the central Appalachians and adjacent regions, producing some of the most vivid blue-violet flowers of any shade-garden native from May through early June — a relative rarity among plants that genuinely thrive in moderate to deep deciduous forest shade. The clear blue, two-lipped tubular flowers are produced in terminal and axillary clusters on 12–24 inch stems and are a significant nectar source for bumblebees and other long-tongued native bees that visit the forest understory in spring. Native to moist, fertile, slightly acidic, humus-rich soils of deciduous woodlands in the central Appalachian region, Showy Skullcap is an ideal native perennial for the shaded garden border, woodland path edge, or native plant shade garden where deep blue flowers in late spring fill a critical color gap. Direct sow seeds in fall in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich woodland soil in partial to full shade; established plants are long-lived and slowly colonize appropriate shaded spots. Спосіб посадки: Посів у відкритий ґрунт Відстань між рослинами: 9–15 дюймів Висота: 12–24 дюймів Дні до схожості: 14–30 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 13–21°C

Showy Skullcap performs best in the cool, dappled shade of eastern deciduous forest understories — it is one of the few native wildflowers that produces exceptional bloom in moderate to deep shade.
