Опис

Scaly Blazingstar is a distinctive native perennial of dry, rocky or sandy, open woodlands, prairies, glades, and barrens across the eastern United States from New England south to Florida and west to Nebraska, immediately recognizable among blazingstars by the squarrose (stiffly spreading) tips of its phyllary bracts — the scales surrounding each flower head — that curve sharply outward, giving the flower head a rough, star-like appearance. The large, intensely purple flower heads are produced from July through September on stiff, upright stems, providing outstanding nectar for migrating monarch butterflies, native bumblebees, sphinx moths, and many species of native bees and butterflies. Adapted to lean, infertile soils in full sun, Scaly Blazingstar is longer-lived and more reliably perennial than some blazingstars when grown in appropriate dry, xeric conditions. Direct sow fresh seeds in fall in dry, rocky or sandy, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil; established corms multiply slowly to form impressive, long-lived clumps. Спосіб посадки: Посів у відкритий ґрунт Відстань між рослинами: 12–18 дюймів Висота: 12–30 дюймів Дні до схожості: 14–21 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 13–21°C

Scaly Blazingstar tolerates rocky, calcareous, and sandy soils and is more drought-tolerant than most blazingstar species.
