Опис
Yellow pitcher plant is one of the tallest and most spectacular native carnivorous plants of North America — producing elegant, yellow-green, trumpet-shaped pitchers up to 4 feet tall with distinctive reddish veining, topped by an arching, umbrella-like lid and a flaring collar that guides insects into the prey-filled, rain-protected trap. Insects are attracted by colorful nectar-like secretions around the pitcher mouth, slide down the waxy inner surface, and drown in the accumulated fluid at the base where bacteria and enzymes digest them; a single pitcher can trap dozens of insects per week. Large, drooping yellow flowers appear on separate stalks in April before the pitchers emerge fully, and have an unusual musty, cat-like scent that attracts early spring pollinators including queen bumblebees, solitary bees, and flies. Native to the wetland pine savannas of the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain from Virginia to Florida, this plant is an outstanding garden specimen for acidic bog gardens in zones 6–9 — it requires no special care beyond pure water, wet conditions, and full sun, and will thrive for decades as a dramatic living sculpture in a properly maintained bog.

Plant nursery-grown transplants in spring in wet to saturated, acidic (pH 3.5–5.5), nutrient-poor peat or sphagnum bog medium in full sun; keep standing in a tray of pure rain water or distilled water 1–2 inches deep year-round — never fertilize and never use tap water.
