Опис

Sand live oak is a native evergreen tree of coastal sand dunes, scrub habitats, and sandy pinelands of the Gulf and Atlantic Coastal Plain, closely related to live oak (Quercus virginiana) but distinctly adapted to excessively drained, nutrient-poor, acidic sands of ancient coastal terraces. It is distinguished from live oak by its smaller, more narrow leaves with rolled-under (revolute) margins, lower growth habit, and adaptation to dry sand rather than the moist, fertile soils favored by live oak. In coastal dune restoration and sandy barrier island plantings, sand live oak serves as one of the primary stabilizing species for ancient coastal plain sands, where it eventually develops into sprawling, wind-sculpted specimens of great character; it is more salt spray tolerant than live oak. Like all oaks, it supports an enormous diversity of native moths, butterflies, and beetles as larval hosts; its small acorns feed migrating wood ducks, and the dense evergreen canopy provides nesting habitat for many songbirds. A valuable evergreen tree for coastal sandy sites in zone 7–10 where typical live oak would not thrive. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 240–480 дюймів Висота: 120–360 дюймів Дні до схожості: 14–45 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 10–18°C
