Опис
Plant in moist, slightly acidic, well-drained to moderately moist soil in partial shade to full sun; running serviceberry is the low-growing, colony-forming native serviceberry of the northeastern US and Appalachians, spreading by stolons to form attractive low thickets 1–3 feet tall on rocky slopes, woodland edges, and open forests. Like all serviceberries, it produces masses of white flowers in early spring that are an important nectar and pollen source for early-emerging native bees, followed by sweet, blueberry-like June berries in early summer that are excellent fresh, dried, or cooked into pies and preserves. The low, suckering habit makes it more useful as a shade-tolerant groundcover or erosion control plant than as a specimen shrub. It colors brilliantly orange-red in fall. An ideal native edible shrub for shaded slopes, woodland edges, and low-maintenance natural landscapes in the Northeast and Appalachians.
