Roseshell Azalea is a fragrant native deciduous azalea of the northeastern United States and Appalachian Mountains, producing profuse clusters of deep rose-pink to light pink flowers with a strong, sweet clove-like fragrance that perfumes entire gardens in late spring — a quality unique among native azaleas that makes it an outstanding choice wherever fragrance is a garden priority. The most cold-hardy of all native azaleas, surviving USDA Zone 3 reliably, Roseshell Azalea grows in rocky, dry-to-moist, open woods, cliff edges, and forest margins from Quebec south to the Virginia mountains, tolerating somewhat drier and stonier conditions than most other native azalea species.
