Rose Turtlehead (Pink Turtlehead)

Plant in consistently moist to wet, fertile, slightly acidic soil in partial shade to full sun; rose turtlehead produces deep rose-pink inflated flowers from midsummer into fall, blooming 2–3 weeks earlier than the similar white turtlehead and offering richer color. It grows naturally along stream banks, wet meadow margins, and boggy woodland edges from Maryland south into the Southeast. Bumblebees that are heavy enough to force open the closed flower mouth are its primary pollinators. Plant in groups of three or more for best visual impact. Divide clumps every 4 years in spring to maintain vigor; cut to the ground after hard frost. Excellent in rain gardens and wet borders where the reliable summer moisture it needs is naturally available.
