Опис
Red Mangrove is one of the most ecologically important coastal trees in the subtropical and tropical Americas, forming the seaward fringe of mangrove forests along sheltered tidal coasts, estuaries, and coastal lagoons of Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean, where its arching prop roots create a complex three-dimensional habitat supporting hundreds of species of fish, invertebrates, birds, and reptiles. The species is viviparous — the seeds germinate on the parent tree itself, producing cigar-shaped propagules up to 12 inches long that drop into the water and drift with currents before anchoring in tidal mudflats and developing new trees. Red Mangrove forests provide irreplaceable ecological services including coastal erosion control, storm surge buffering, carbon sequestration, and water quality filtration; removing them is illegal in Florida and most coastal states. Plant nursery-grown material only in appropriate tidal coastal zones in full sun in Zones 9–11; Red Mangrove is cold-sensitive and should not be planted north of its natural range.

Час посадки: 0–8 тижнів spring
Plant nursery-grown propagules or container stock in spring in coastal, estuarine, or tidal wetland substrate in full sun; Red Mangrove is viviparous — the seed germinates on the parent tree, producing a cigar-shaped propagule that drops and anchors in the mud. Planting in protected tidal areas with shallow water and fine sediment gives the best establishment results. Never plant Red Mangrove outside of its natural range.
