Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun on a sturdy trellis; Rangoon creeper is one of the most spectacular and fragrant of all tropical vines, producing pendant clusters of fragrant tubular flowers that open pure white, then change through pink to brilliant red over 3–4 days — the different-colored flowers at different stages create a stunning three-color display on the vine at all times during the long blooming season from late spring through fall. The sweet fragrance is strongest in the evening and carries widely on still air. In zone 8–9 established plants die to the ground in freezes but resprout vigorously in spring from the established root system. The vine can become very large in warm climates and may need annual pruning to keep manageable. Once established it is drought tolerant. The seeds are edible and have been used medicinally in Asia for centuries.
