White Rain Lily (Autumn Zephyr Lily)

Plant bulbs in any well-drained, moist to dry soil in full sun to partial shade; white rain lily is one of the most reliable and effortless naturalizing bulbs for zones 7–11, producing masses of pristine white, crocus-like flowers — about 1.5 inches wide with yellow stamens — in late summer and fall, typically triggered to bloom within days of a summer rain after a dry period. The narrow, rush-like, grass-green leaves are present most of the year and are attractive in their own right; the plant multiplies freely by offsets to form an expanding clump over time. In zone 9 it is fully evergreen or semi-evergreen and blooms repeatedly through the warm season with each significant rainfall. It naturalizes beautifully in lawns, under trees, in borders, and in rock gardens, requiring essentially no care once established. Combine with pink Zephyranthes grandiflora, yellow Z. citrina, and salmon-peach Z. 'Grandjax' for a succession of bloom from spring through fall.
