Willow oak

Plant in moist, slightly acidic, well-drained to moderately moist soil in full sun; willow oak is one of the most graceful native oaks, producing narrow, willow-like leaves unlike any other oak, giving the tree an unusually fine-textured, feathery appearance in the landscape. It grows naturally in bottomland forests and moist uplands across the coastal South and is one of the most widely planted native oaks as a street tree for its tolerance of urban conditions, moist soils, and relatively fast growth rate (1–2 feet per year). The tiny acorns produced in enormous abundance beginning at 10–15 years provide critical fall and winter food for wood ducks, mallards, wild turkeys, squirrels, and songbirds. Fall color is not as vivid as red oak but pleasant golden-yellow. Very long-lived and ultimately a large landscape tree.
