Опис

Plant callused pads in very well-drained, dry, rocky to sandy, alkaline to neutral soil in full sun — purple prickly pear is one of the most ornamentally striking native cacti of the Chihuahuan Desert and Texas prairies, valued for the brilliant reddish-purple to wine-red coloration that develops on its blue-green pads during cold weather and drought stress, providing some of the most vivid winter color of any cactus or succulent in cultivation. The yellow flowers with red centers in spring are beautiful; the edible purple-red fruits (tunas) follow in late summer and fall. Long, 3–4 inch white to gray spines give the plant a dramatic, bold texture. The distinctive purple winter color is the result of anthocyanin pigments produced as a cold-stress response — pads return to blue-green in summer warmth. An outstanding xeriscape and dry garden plant for hot, dry, alkaline soils of the southern Gulf Coast and Texas. Edible pads and fruit used as other prickly pears. Спосіб посадки: Розмноження діленням куща Відстань між рослинами: 24–48 дюймів Висота: 18–36 дюймів Дні до схожості: 14–30 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 21–27°C
