Опис
Wild Coffee is one of the most valuable native shade shrubs for south Florida and tropical hammock gardens, native to the dense, shaded understories of tropical hardwood hammocks, coastal hammocks, and pinelands from Brevard and Hillsborough counties south through the Florida Keys and into the Caribbean. Its large, glossy, strongly quilted or pleated dark green leaves with prominent veins are among the most attractive foliage textures in the Florida native palette, providing a lush, tropical appearance in deep shade where few other shrubs thrive. Small white flowers appear year-round, followed by clusters of bright red berries in fall and winter that are a vital food source for migrating warblers, robins, and thrushes. Despite the common name, it is not a true coffee (Coffea), though the plants share family membership; the berries are not edible by humans. An outstanding shade shrub for zone 9b–11 landscapes that fills the difficult deep-shade role with year-round beauty and wildlife value.
