Опис
Prairie acacia is a native thornless (or nearly thornless) shrub of open prairies, rocky hillsides, and dry woodlands from Texas and Oklahoma to Arizona and south into Central America — one of the most ornamentally appealing of all native acacias due to its feathery, twice-pinnate leaves and profuse, creamy-white fluffy flower balls that emerge throughout summer and fall. As a legume, it fixes atmospheric nitrogen and builds soil organic matter through prolific leaf fall — traditionally it was valued as a fodder and soil improvement plant in tropical dry regions as well as for wildlife cover. The delicate, fernlike foliage is grazed by white-tailed deer and provides larval host resources for several butterfly species; the abundant seed pods attract quail, bobwhite, and songbirds in fall. In Gulf Coast gardens and south Texas habitat restorations, it is one of the more reliable, low-maintenance native shrubs for full sun in poor, dry soil — it dies back to the ground in cold winters in zones 7–8 but regrows vigorously from deep roots each spring.

Час посадки: 2–4 тижнів від останнього весняного заморозка
Direct sow scarified seeds in spring in dry to average, well-drained soil in full sun; prairie acacia regrows vigorously from deep roots after frost and fire — site where seasonal die-back is acceptable, as it goes completely dormant in cold winters.
