Опис

Pond Pine is an ecologically fascinating native pine, the dominant tree of the pocosins (shrubby Carolina bogs) and wet pine flatwoods of the southeastern coastal plain from New Jersey to northern Florida, where it grows in the most permanently saturated, acidic, peaty soils of the coastal plain in full sun — a habitat as harsh as any in the temperate world. Its cones are strongly serotinous — sealed shut with resin — and open most reliably after fire, giving Pond Pine a remarkable fire-dependent life history: the dense, wet habitat rarely burns, but when lightning does ignite a pocosin, the heat opens the cones and the charred, open landscape gives the fire-adapted seedlings their best chance for establishment. Pond Pine sprouts vigorously from the root crown after fire, regenerating rapidly even when top-killed. In natural landscape and restoration plantings, Pond Pine is appropriate for the wet, boggy, acidic conditions of pocosins and seepage bogs in zones 6–9, where its tolerance for waterlogged soils matches or exceeds that of any other eastern pine species. Спосіб посадки: Посів у відкритий ґрунт Відстань між рослинами: 240–480 дюймів Висота: 360–720 дюймів Дні до схожості: 7–21 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 16–24°C

Pond Pine establishes most reliably in its natural wet, acidic habitat.
