Bluish-black berries follow in late summer and are highly attractive to birds. The foliage turns clear yellow in autumn before the stems die back completely. Plants spread slowly by rhizome to form dignified colonies; transplant divisions in spring or fall. Giant Solomon's seal (P. commutatum) grows to 5–6 feet and is equally effective in larger shade gardens.
