Опис
Plant in moist, rich, slightly acidic soil in partial to full shade; this woodland native spreads by horizontal rhizomes to form dramatic colonies of large umbrella-like leaves that carpet the forest floor. The single white flower hidden beneath the paired leaves in spring develops into a yellowish, lemon-scented fruit by midsummer — the only part of the plant that is edible when fully soft and ripe. The roots, leaves, and unripe fruit contain podophyllin, a potent toxin, and should never be consumed. The plant goes dormant and disappears by late summer, so interplant with ferns or other shade perennials to fill the void.

Plant rhizome sections 2 inches deep in early spring; the rhizome spreads aggressively underground to form colonies — give it ample space in a naturalized area.
