Опис
Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, moderately fertile soil in partial shade to full sun — Philippine violet is a prolific-blooming tropical shrub from South Asia that thrives in the heat and humidity of the Gulf Coast, producing masses of attractive tubular, five-lobed flowers in shades of lavender-blue, violet, or white from fall through spring. It blooms most heavily during the cooler months when many other tropical plants have shut down, making it a valuable addition to the fall and winter garden palette. The soft, somewhat hairy foliage is attractive year-round in zone 10–11. It performs beautifully in partial shade and tolerates considerable drought once established — an outstanding plant for dry-shade situations along building foundations and under trees in zone 9–10. In zone 9 top growth may freeze back in hard winters but the plant regrows vigorously; cut back to 6 inches in late winter each year to encourage vigorous new blooming growth.

Root stem cuttings or plant container transplants after nighttime temperatures are consistently above 55°F; Philippine violet blooms on new growth and should be pruned back by one-third in early spring to encourage a flush of new flowering stems.
