Persian Shield

Plant in moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soil in partial to full shade; Persian shield is one of the most flamboyantly beautiful foliage plants available for shaded tropical gardens, with large, lance-shaped leaves of iridescent silver-purple that shimmer with metallic, jewel-like blue-purple-silver tones that change with the viewing angle and lighting conditions — an almost impossibly vivid foliage display unlike anything else in the garden. In zone 8–11 it thrives outdoors in the warm, humid conditions of the Gulf Coast, particularly in sheltered, brightly shaded spots where the metallic leaves glow dramatically.
