Опис

Hairy penstemon is a widely adaptable native penstemon of rocky outcrops, dry meadows, open woodlands, and roadsides in the northeastern and north-central United States, producing spikes of pale violet to whitish, hairy-coated tubular flowers in late spring that are a critical food source for bumblebee queens emerging from winter dormancy and seeking early-season pollen and nectar. The plant is covered in fine hairs from the stems to the flower tubes — hence 'hirsutus' — giving it a soft, gray-green, velvety texture that is attractive in its own right; rosettes of glossy, toothed leaves persist year-round as a semi-evergreen groundcover in milder zones. It is one of the most drought tolerant and cold hardy of all eastern penstemons, adapting to virtually any dry, well-drained site in zones 3–8 with no supplemental irrigation once established; excellent for rock gardens, dry slopes, and hell-strip plantings in regions with cold, dry winters. Self-seeds moderately to form naturalized colonies in suitable rocky or sandy soils. Спосіб посадки: Посів у відкритий ґрунт Відстань між рослинами: 12–18 дюймів Висота: 12–24 дюймів Дні до схожості: 21–45 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 13–18°C
