Опис

Retama is one of the most spectacular native flowering trees of the Texas coastal region and Gulf South — its weeping, bright green photosynthetic stems and spine-tipped branches give it a distinctive architectural silhouette year-round, and in spring it erupts into cascading sprays of fragrant, bright yellow flowers with an orange-spotted petal that is so showy it has been called 'Jerusalem thorn' in the Anglo tradition and 'retama' in the Spanish South Texas culture. The photosynthetic green bark allows the tree to produce energy even during droughts when leaves (tiny, feathery leaflets on long, drooping rachises) may drop, enabling survival in extreme heat and drought that would kill most trees. Retama grows exceptionally fast — often 6–8 feet per year in good conditions — making it useful for rapid screening and shade creation in south Texas landscapes; it also serves as an important nectar plant for native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds and provides nesting habitat for orioles and doves. The tree is armed with paired thorns and is not recommended near high-traffic areas. Спосіб посадки: Посів у відкритий ґрунт Відстань між рослинами: 120–240 дюймів Висота: 120–360 дюймів Дні до схожості: 7–21 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 21–27°C
