This warm-season perennial forms upright clumps three to six feet tall with airy red-purple seed heads that catch the light and persist into winter. Its deep roots make it exceptionally drought-tolerant and superb for erosion control and wildlife cover. Leave standing stems through winter for interest, then cut back in early spring.
