Опис
Plant bulbs 3–4 inches deep in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade; the oxblood lily is one of the most beloved and iconic heirloom bulbs of the Gulf South, an old-fashioned schoolhouse garden staple that has been passed along in this region for over 150 years since its introduction from Argentina. The brilliant deep-red trumpet flowers (2–3 per stem) appear suddenly in late August through September, before the leaves, seemingly overnight after the first significant fall rain — hence the alternate name 'hurricane lily.' The strap-like leaves follow in fall and winter, dying back by summer. The bulbs are nearly indestructible in zone 7–9, naturalizing freely and increasing year after year, with established stands producing hundreds of stems in late summer. They thrive in dry, lean conditions and actually perform worse with too much water or fertilizer. A piece of living southern garden history.

Plant bulbs 3–4 inches deep in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, lean to moderately fertile soil in full sun to partial shade in late summer or early fall; once planted, oxblood lily resents disturbance and should be left alone permanently to naturalize. Do not dig or divide unless absolutely necessary.
