Опис

American hop hornbeam is a small to medium understory tree of exceptional adaptability, tolerating everything from deep dry shade under mature oaks to moist bottomland edges — one of the finest native trees for difficult shaded sites where larger trees struggle. Its common name refers to the distinctive hop-like fruiting clusters that hang from branches in summer and fall, providing important food for ruffed grouse, wild turkey, northern bobwhite, and numerous songbirds and small mammals. The wood is extraordinarily hard and dense — historically used for tool handles and fence posts and known as 'ironwood' — and the pale, finely ridged gray bark provides year-round ornamental interest. Grow as a specimen or in groupings beneath taller oaks, hickories, and maples to create a multi-layered native woodland garden; it thrives with minimal care once established and is largely pest and disease free. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 240–360 дюймів Висота: 240–480 дюймів Дні до схожості: 60–120 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 4–13°C
