Опис
Direct sow in fall or transplant in spring in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, dry to moderately moist soil in full sun — sundrops is a day-blooming native perennial (unlike its nocturnal cousin the evening primrose) that produces a long season of bright, clear, four-petaled lemon-yellow flowers 1.5–2 inches across from May through July on upright reddish stems with attractive, narrow, reddish-tinged leaves. The red pigmentation of the stems and foliage deepens through summer and turns spectacular bronzy-red in fall, providing excellent late-season color after the blooms end. It spreads by rhizomes and self-sowing to naturalize in open, sunny, dry areas, making it excellent for prairie gardens, wildflower meadows, and low-maintenance dry-slope plantings. The similar O. tetragona and its cultivar 'Fireworks' (with showy orange-red buds opening to yellow) are closely related and widely grown garden selections offering longer bloom periods. Drought tolerant; requires excellent drainage; no care once established.

Direct sow seed in fall in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, dry to moderately moist, loamy to sandy soil in full sun; sundrops (unlike evening primrose) blooms by day and is an excellent day-blooming perennial for open sunny borders where evening primroses would go unnoticed at their peak.
