Опис
Plant bulbils or offsets in well-drained, dry to moderately moist soil in full sun to partial shade — octopus agave is named for its remarkably distinctive rosette of long, twisting, channeled leaves that curl and undulate in organic, sinuous curves resembling the arms of an octopus — a shape unlike any other agave in cultivation. The long, flexible, gray-green leaves have only soft marginal teeth and no dangerous terminal spine, making it one of the safest agaves for garden use. After 10–20 years, the plant produces a tall flower spike densely covered in yellow flowers; unlike most agaves (which produce offsets), octopus agave produces thousands of small bulbils on the flower spike that can be harvested and planted. It is more shade tolerant than most agaves and grows naturally in the rocky slopes and ravines of northwest Mexico, performing well on shaded north or east-facing slopes in Gulf Coast gardens.

Plant bulbils (produced prolifically on the flower spike) or offsets in well-drained, sandy to loamy, dry to moderately moist, slightly alkaline to neutral soil in full sun to partial shade; octopus agave is one of the most cold-tender agaves, reliably hardy only to about 25–28°F.
