Plant bulbs 3–4 inches deep in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade in fall; paperwhites are the most reliable and easy-to-grow winter-blooming bulb for the Gulf South, where they naturalize freely and bloom reliably every December–February without any cold treatment. The clusters of small, pure white, extremely fragrant flowers are a joy in the winter garden and make excellent cut flowers — the strong musky-sweet scent is distinctive and potent (dilute in mixed arrangements for those sensitive to strong fragrances). Unlike yellow daffodils, paperwhites persist and multiply in the warm, mild winters of zone 8–11. Plant new bulbs in fall for the first year; established naturalized clumps increase every year and require only to be divided when crowded.
