Опис

Myrtle oak is a small-leaved, evergreen scrub oak of the Florida Peninsula and adjacent Gulf and Atlantic Coastal Plain, unique among native oaks for its distinctly myrtle-like, oval, entire (not lobed) leaves that are shiny and dark green above — so different in appearance from typical oak leaves that beginners often fail to recognize it as an oak. It grows in the hottest, driest, most nutrient-deficient white-sand scrub habitats of the Florida interior and coasts, forming dense thickets from ankle height to small tree size depending on fire history and site conditions; Florida scrub habitats maintained by periodic fire have low, clumping myrtle oaks while fire-suppressed scrub develops into tall, dense thickets. Like turkey oak, myrtle oak is a foundational component of the Florida scrub ecosystem, which hosts more endemic species per acre than almost any other habitat in temperate North America, including the federally threatened Florida scrub-jay that depends on scrub oaks as its primary food source. A valuable landscape shrub or small tree for dry, sandy, acidic sites in central and south Florida. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 48–96 дюймів Висота: 24–180 дюймів Дні до схожості: 14–45 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 10–18°C
